S&W 500 Compensators

I apologize if this has been covered. I've looked everywhere and can't find a straight answer.
I've got a 500 with removable compensators, one for jacketed bullets and one for cast. Can anyone tell me why? The only thing I can figure is it's a leading issue with cast bullets. As someone who's already leaded the barrel on a brand new 500, I fully appreciate the problem of cleaning it. I've since gone to straight linotype alloy and gas checked bullets to insure it never happens again. With that being said; is it still a bad idea to run cast bullets through the jacketed compensator? Its not that I'm lazy, but I've caught myself switching ammo and forgetting the compensator at the range.

Some X frame owners need to compensate, others need to overcompensate.

The main purpose of the lead compensator is to block the holes on either side of the front sight so that they don't get plugged up with lead. My basic cast load is a 325g SWC that I cast with pure linotype. I don't have leading issues but I keep it around 1000fps. They are very accurate and easy to shoot. When I want to jack things up I stick with jacketed bullets.
