S&W 500 problems

I have a S@W Performance Center 500 that I purchased in 2023.It blew up while at the shooting range.S@W refuses to replace it.It is unokrepaireable
If S&W refused to replace/repair it's based on something YOU did and you aren't telling us the whole story. Usually these types of posts are 'drive by' so I don't really expect an answer, but pictures would be appreciated.

While not a 500, I do have a 460 I bought new 5-6 years ago. I reload my own ammo, and not being a glutton for punishment, my loads are on the lower end of the spectrum. I preferred the 460 over the 500 due to the fact I could also reload / shoot 454 Casull, .45 LC, and even .45 Schofield in conjunction with the 460 ammo. I reload for all these calibers, so it just made sense to me. I do have 325 gr. factory HSM "bear loads " for when I ride my Polaris Ranger up into our Montana mountains { Grizz and black bear abound} . I have never had any issues of a any type with the gun, and is literally a blast to shoot. In fact I had it to the range last week, and put 200 + rounds {45 LC and 454 Casull reloads } thru it, flawlessly ! My advice if your on the fence about buying a 500 is ..if in doubt, then don't !

No problems

I'm strapped with one now (3.5" barrel Performance Center). No problems, accurate, fun to shoot and I'd only use one word to describe it: "Monsterous". The thing is a Monster. Moreover it's expensive. I reload and cast and it's still expensive. EVERYTHING for the monster is too much. I can cast bullets that weigh 1/10 of a pound so even the lead disappears like nothing, If I buy 5 lbs. of lead I get one box of ammo. Powder, oh the powder, 45 grains, 7000 grains in a pound, about 150 rounds a pound. Berry's bullets 150 for the price of 500 9, .357, .38 etc. rounds. But it sure does go "bang".

To the OP. One thing you need to keep an eye on are the screws. Get a good hollow ground flat head meant for guns. I like to check at least every 50 rounds because they will loosen up. Also make sure the ejector rod is tight at that time. I use a small dab of red Loctite on my 8 3/8" 460XVR screws. Even then, they will become loose after so many rounds. Just the nature of owning a high pressure X frame. It's normal for this to happen. I just keep an eye on them often and make sure they're not loose so they won't loosen and fall out. Enjoy the 500. Fun guns.
