Several years ago, I bought a KHP Commemorative (Serial # AJY7619) with the understanding from the dealer that it was actually carried on duty by the trooper that owned it. It is engraved (Class C?) celebrating the 50th anniversary of the agency in 1987 including the trooper's badge number. I needed a revolver from Kansas for my collection. So,all was well......for a while.

A few months ago,I decided to find out the officer's name etc. based on the badge number. I was able to speak with the KHP Lieutenant that has that shield. He told me that he bought one of the anniversary edition 586s with his badge number on it back in 1987. It is tucked away in his safe at his house.

My gun has typical carry wear which for me is a good thing.

I understand that having a badge number added was an option. The only other one of these I've seen did not have a shield number.

Hmmm......So,what do I have???

I do not believe I could bring myself to holster a revolver that pretty! I have a Miss. Law Enforcement Assn. 50th Aniv. revolver,but it takes a back seat to this one.

That is the gun except that mine has the officer's badge number just to the right of the gold shield.

Well.....Unless I can confirm that this was actually carried by a law enforcement officer in the Sunflower State, it'll be gone soon. It will make a good inexpensive shooter for someone! Watch the classifieds.

50th Anniversary KHP Revolver

I am a 32 year retired KHP officer. I was assigned to R&P in KHP GHQ when these revolvers were made and offered for sale. Only 388 were made and the mold was then broken. They came with a wooden display case with a blue velvet lining. Included was a COA from the manufacturer and the engraver. Individual officers were able to purchase one for $303 with radio number embossed on the right side above the trigger. Mine says K-282. They were never carried to the best of my knowledge as that would surely wear off the bluing. The one shown in the picture does not have a radio number which means it was one not purchased by an member at that time. Every one says 1 of 388.

Number Mistake

I'm sorry. 338 is the correct amount, not 388. Forgot glasses....
