S&W 586

I was just contacted about possibily purchasing a 586 revolver. Thats all the info I have other then it comes with a holster and he's asking $425. I need a crash course in 586's.

If it's in good shape, that price is about $100 below what I'd see around here. I do enjoy my 4" 586. Shoots straight and is boringly reliable.

I passed on a 6" 586-5 today at a local gun show. It wasn't worth the $400 the guy was asking. It was rough. I thought it was interesting, that I posted on Armslist 3 month's ago that I am looking to buy a 3" 65. No bites. Then today I look at a 586 and decide to pass. Get home and had a response to the 65 add about the 586 from a guy who lives within 10 miles of me.

Thats a good price! I just bought a 686-1 $430 otd. I wanted a 586 but cant b found so I bought it no regrets.When a 586 is found I hope its a 4 in!

A good price if it has not been beat up or rusted. I have two 560 founr inch revolvers and they are great shooters. I used one this past weekend at an ICORE shoot in Phoenix.

The 586 was made from 1980 - 1999 with various standard barrel lengths of 4, 6, 8 3/8", and a few 2 1/2 and 3" guns. The dash designations were similar to the 686 revisions, and the no dash to - 4 models are pre MIM, no lock, and will usually bring more than the later ones. Pricing is always dependent on condition, but a nice 4" 95% early gun should bring around $500.

I paid $480 for a 6" 586 this summer and love it.

I'm shopping for a .357 4" "L" frame (581/586 preferred) that I want to add to my "shooters" group.

I'd buy it for that price.

I have a M586 no dash, 4". The L frame works great with .357's and I feel the full under lug gives it a real stable platform for accuracy. Just my 2 cents.

Early 2010, I bought a 4", with original stocks and box, for $475. Your cost will be well within the ball park, and closer to a steal.

Ok, I bought it. Didn't even try to haggle. It's a 586 no dash. Probably hasn't had a box of ammo fired through it. The guy I bought it from never fired it and he got it from the original owner with less then 25 rounds missing from what I'm guessing was the box that was bought with the gun. There is some minor blue wear on the barrel probably from being kept in a cheap nylon holster. The only thing that would have made this a better find would have been box and papers. This is my second really good deal this month. Might be a very good year!

You will enjoy it very much, the first revolver I ever bought was a 4" 586 no dash I bought new in 1984 which I still have!

Check and see if it has an m where sertial number is.there was a recall on no dash and dash 1 586-686 revolvers

A darn good gun and if it's in good shape it's worth the money. This model would have been the cat's meow of 357 magnums if it had come out about 5 years earlier. Law enforcement had already started it's transition to semi-autos when this gun was announced. Had that not happened it would have been much more popular and more numerous, in my opinion.

Got the 586 no dash today. Serial number is ACH 25**. Since I don't have the bible, when was it made?

you got a good one. the L frame 357's are by far the best out there, and that coming from a huge ruger fan! I have a 4" 686 in the safe and a 6" 586 on layaway for the same price you paid. You got a Great deal. Enjoy it alot.
