I recently acquired 3" heavy barreled model 60 with square butt. The serial prefix is AEW which "the book" says 1984 production. Product code 102304 lists a 3" HB SB as 1988 production. Figuring the product codes go in order, I note that the 2" adjustable sighted model 60-1 for Ashland is product code 102305 produced in 1986. Could the book be incorrect stating a 1988 date? Or could this revolver NOT be a product code 102304, but some other variant? If so, does any one know what it is; meaning who was it made for (e.g.: Jovino, Lew Horton, etc.). And approx how many were made? Thank you.

Model 60

Ken:

Might offer a little help. Mine is AEU88XX, which I determined was shipped 11/84 to John Jovino Dist.

Sorry, don't know how many were made. Like to know that myself.

Good Luck, Hank M.

Your Model 60 square butt was one of 5,000 made for John Jovino, Inc. in 1984. The order was split between the 3 inchers and 2 inchers also with the square butt frame. I had AEV6501 which I got in October, 1984, having seen the Jovino ad in ShotGun News and having my dealer order me one.

There was an earlier batch of 171 3 inchers made in 1972 that had an R prefix in the serial number.

You got a nice gun.

I had one, and it's a fine small defense gun with some outdoor potential, too.

I think it should have been a std. production item.

I have AEW13xx in my database, which shipped May 1985.
