Sooooooo tempted, but watching my pennies because of the employment situation. Found a 617-4 pre-lock 10 shooter with the 4 inch barrel. It is used but in the original box. I know these puppies are hard to find and the guy ain't coming off of $550. Yea or nay??????? I can hit better with these than I can with the Ruger Mark II Target pistols..............arghhhhhhhhh!

Absolutely, yea! $550 is an excellent price for a 617. That's what I paid more than two years ago for my 617-1 4" and would expect to be able to resell it today for a bit more than that.

Not a bad deal in my opinion. Here's my track on the 4-incher:

Smith & Wesson 617 Plus Revolver in .22, Long Rifle 4-in Bbl. Bluebook of Gun Values (30th Edition) indicates between $466 in 98% condition and $616 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 31 recorded prices for this model gun from $350 to $650 over a period of 6 Yrs 1 Mos ending November 1, 2009. The average price as of that date was $485. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights, all represented as 95% or better, no distinction for import location or engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $916.

The Average Price Trend is very close to the offer you're considering.

I believe that's a fair price today. You'd have to be pretty lucky to find a better deal anytime soon. I sure do love my 617 six shooter.

God Luck with your decision.

Very good price, especially a pre lock 4." This time next year it'll seem cheap.

Recently paid $650 for new in MA. Love the gun and would have jumped at $550 in the condition you describe if I could have found it. Put about 100 rounds through it during first session and during cleaning noticed a "line" developing around cylinder where the part of the trigger assembly that extends through the frame touches it. Can't feel it as a "score" but neither can I polish it out using the usual techniques, including lead cloth. New to revolvers. Is this typical? Should I get an adjustment?

Been looking for a 617 no-dash or -1 6" for awhile. Did you really think we'd say DON'T buy it???

Totally normal, called a turn line.

That's a good price and I say get it.

If not, tell me where to get it and I'll buy it.

I've been looking for a 617-4 or 617-6 for a while now, since
those are the only 4" models we can get here in California.

Any S&W 22LR-related revolver that I've seen for sale doesn't
last long. And usually I always miss it.
