I laid away a like new 617 6 inch at my favorite pawn shop. I can't wait to bring it home and try it out.

The 617 is a winner for sure, I wish they would offer the non lugged barrel in all 3 barrel lengths, the full lug seems a little heavy at times.

You cannot deny how they shoot though, Send some pics when you get her. 308

I purchased a 4" 617 last Thursday. Accuracy is great, but it has issues when shooting double action. (See my post on "617 Double action troubles")

I will post pictures and a range report when I bring it home. I am glad to hear they shoot well. I traded a Ruger single six in on the 617 because 1 it was not very accurate, 2 I got tired of the loading and unloading process. I had heard the 617 was accurate and have wanted one for a while. I can't wait.

I have been waiting on my for a while. My dealer found me a 6" 617 a while back. Have been waiting on the dist. to get a few more guns that the shop needed to save on shipping. It should be on the way now.

Any thoughts on 6" vs 4".

Hope this does not cross the lines of HI JACKING:)

I had a 6" and a 4". I've just sold the 6" gun because I wasn't shooting it much. They're both great guns and I was, perhaps, a wee bit more accurate shooting the 6-incher. But, I have a thing for 4 inch revolvers and I was using the 4 incher pretty much all the time as a trainer. So, the 6" gun became redundant.

This will be my first S&W 22 Wheelgun and was torn between the 4 and 6. I will only be target shooting (plinking style) with mine. So I opted for the 6. But still having second thoughts. Another cust at the shop bought a 4 inch but later said he ment to have ordered the 6. so i can still get the 4 if I want.I told the other guy he could look at my 6 and I would look at his 4 and we could possibly work a trade.

I had both the 4" and 6" (although the 6" was a 6-shot with TT & TH). Both were equals off bags with scope. For serious target shooting or squirrel hunting, I'd prefer the 6" due to it's longer sight radius. For everything else, the 4" is the way to go. It balances and handles better. Like Stevieboy, I use my 4" all the time... the 6" became redundant and I recently sold it.
