M-617, 4 inch, 10 months old, I can pull the hammer back slow, 2 clicks, locks the cylinder, Lay my thumb on the cylinder, no 2nd click, until I move the cylinder just a little to the left, it has always leaded up the forcing cone, tried 8 types of ammo, is that a timing issue ? should I send it back to S&W ? Just sent back a 6 inch, 2nd time back today, 2 months old, With a bad hitch in the trigger pull, thanks for any info..

The revolver was designed to be cocked like you mean it. Slowly pulling back the hammer can get the hammer back without the cylinder getting locked, especially if you put friction on the cylinder. If you want a more robust carry up, it can be adjusted but that is a job for a knowledgable individual. You have a lifetime warranty, send it back and see what they will do for you.

To me, it does not carry up enough unless it does so well in advance of the hammer falling. If the trigger is pulled very slowly in double action and it does not lock up, I fix it. Putting some retarding pressure on the cylinder retards the lock up, it does not carry up to my satisfaction. The hand should rotate the cylinder into lock up fully, period! But that is just me, and the way I like to have my revolvers set up. Also, that is the way the older revolvers were made to do. Nany new ones that I have handled are overtimed, so that there is a hand/ratchet bind right at the end of the double action stroke.
If it were mine, it would not be acceptable as is.

Try putting 6 fired casings in the chambers and re-trying the carry-up test...

This one is a 10 shot, But, I always have empty casings in for testing, think I will call S&W tomorrow morning, it maybe going back to the factory.. As much as they cost, they should be checked at the factory Before they ship them out to sell.. Called S&W, Sounded like a young man, he said there is nothing wrong with it, just use CLP cleaner to get the lead off around the forcing cone..
