I was asking some questions the other day about the 624, so I finally searched the web to find what I needed and bought it. I found all of the info about the bum cyclinders but after three calls to S&W customer service I finally got in touch with a lady named Kate.

This woman certainly knows what's happening at S&W. I left a message for her with the guns SN#. She said I was good to go, so I bought the 624.

After the first couple of range sessions I discovered a problem. The cyclinder was over cycling. Forgive me, probably not the correct terminology but it would not lock up when fired quickly in DA mode. In other words it would, over spin, go past the next round. Weak spring on cyclinder lock.

Took it back to dealer and he said someone had put a trigger job on it but had taken some short cuts and messed with some springs. He made it right. I got it back yesterday and will hopefully get to the range this weekend.

But other than that factor it is a blast to shoot, there is the typical recoil but not that bad. The only range I have had it on is 50 feet and it is very accurate. Do I like it? VERY MUCH. I will try and get some pix and post. I realize I was very lucky to find this, but what a treat and it packs very nicely in an OWB holster.

If you haven't shot a 3 inch Lew Horton S&W 44 special...OMG you are missing a real treat indeed!

i have a 624 4 inch and when it was brand new it did the same thing yours did. there was a small burr in the bolt window that was casing thr bolt to not pop up when it was suppose to, i fixed it years ago never had another problem.

I have a particular fondness for the S&W 44's. I own an example of all the models made since the first 44 HE all in target configuration. They all are super accurate and a pleasure to shoot. I currently use Trail Boss witht he 245 gr. Keith style LSWC.
