Hi, I just bought my first revolver a few days ago, it is an S&W 629 Deluxe 44 Mag. Once I got it I was doing a quick inspection and I realized that a pin was sticking out from the frame a bit.I have no idea what the pin does and I don't know if I should just tap it down or if there is anything I need to do beforehand. I attached a picture, but just in case you can't see it, I'm referring to the pin located right after the ejector rod, it seems like it is securing the rod release to the frame. Any advice please

Use the wood as a cushion. Hit the wood with the hammer. A wooden dowel works great. Brass won't mar the finish but it sometimes leaves an annoying brass smear that has to be removed....without marring the finish.

I have tapped this pin with a piece of scrap hardwood and it broke the wood and the pin didn't move at all. I tapped as well with a punch and a hammer with no look. The pin started to get a bit rounded on top. I looked at the other side of the gun and it is in the right position it just doesn't go in.

I wouldn't worry about it. You need a cupped punch so that you can tap it in without deforming it. It is not going to work loose.
