A firend of mine is looking to sell a 650 .22MAG.

Gun has typical S&W small factory grips , no box or manual, and is in nice (all orginal condition )

What would be considered a GOOD deal on what I described?

THANK YOU.

I would guess $600-800; a good price for you would be at the lower end of this range :). Others may have a different opinion.

I have had this one for years. No box or papers, but I do have the original stocks. I turned down a $700.00 offer for it from a fellow who saw me shooting it at a local range. I have no desire to sell or trade it. IIRC, I traded a Browning A-bolt Stalker 7mm mag rifle even for it. I had less than $300.00 in the rifle.

Alan is right on point here...

I ran up on this one for $625 at Cabela's in early 2013...

Well used, no box, had the wrong stocks on it when I got it.

I wouldn't have paid that, but I had a bunch of Cabela's points to burn up.

Let me say this before you go and spend a bucket full of money on that gun. I am a mediocre handgun shot on a good day. My S&W 650 and two others that I have fired were amongst the least accurate handguns that I have ever shot. A good bit of this comes from the ammo, .22 mag was never meant to be a target round by any means but I tried every brand I ever ran across, and .22 mag ammo has never been inexpensive. My gun likes the 33 grain Remington load the best. Accuracy is decent, it shoots fairly clean, and the spent cases extract easily.

This is also one of the loudest handguns I ever fired. Ear protection is a must have with this one. Larger stocks helped my shooting too.

I owned a artillery model 48 a few years ago, it was not much more accurate than the 650.

I have a 650 with 2 cylinders, .22lr and .22mag. I never shoot the .22mags out of it. .22mags don't make ballistic sense in anything but in a rifle. I have a Marlin .22mag rifle that is very accurate using Fiocchi ammo.

$600-$800.00. is about right, depending how badly you want it. Personally, if I was looking for a .22mag. snubby, I'd go for the Ruger LCR, it's light, it's cheap, and has a fantastic DOA trigger.

Any .22mag snubby is basically a "belly" gun. You stick it into the "perps" belly and pull the trigger six times. That's how the gun shop owner described my 650 when I bought it for $225. in the early 80s.

I want to thank everyone for the information .

The revolver in question is a three inch model 650 , has no box or paperwork. It is in 100% factory original unmodified condition with small factory J frame grips.

It was made in 1983 according to S&W.

Is 650 .00 TOTAL OTD sounds ok ?

I paid $650 for mine and was happy to even find one. Mine actually shoots pretty good at 12 yards, good enough to hit empty .410 shells with CCI ammo. If you think you'd like to have a 650 I wouldn't pass it up for that price. +1 on the LOUD.

That mdl. 650 with both (factory) .22 Lr and .22 mag. cylinders as noted by poster #6 above is very unusual and scarce...... Even more rare to find is the mdl 651 (adjustable sights) with both cylinders.
With two different production runs, of the 651, but with the conversion model only in the first, and an estimated total of 900 units total,( if I read the 3rd SCSW correctly).

Certainly not to be relied on completely, but Gun Broker had one listed with a start price of $1200.00, but do not recall if 650, or 651.

In my opinion, if you want it at $650.00 OTD, get it. You will not likely "walk up" on a better deal just around the corner.

I think $650 for a 650 is a good deal. They sale for some pretty hefty prices on GB. I'm glad I found mine a couple years ago with the box and the 22lr cylinder included.

It's a pretty good deal. It can also use .22 WRF ammo, shorter and quieter than the .22 WRM/MRF, if you can find it.

@$650. it's reasonable, but is .22 mag ammo available?

I haven't looked for any recently, in fact sold some to my LGS. as they were desperate to have some when the Ruger LCR .22mags arrived.

Again, I only shoot .22 mags in rifle and occasionally in Ruger Super Single Six convertible.

I'm now well aware of the rarity of this gun. At the time of purchase, I didn't think much about it, figured there were lots of them around. Don't understand why S&W didn't/doesn't make more of them, as it is a winner, Guess they want you to buy two guns, thereby doubling their profits in this popular category.
