S&W 66

I purchased this S&W 66 about a week ago and wanted to share. I checked the S&W Standard Catalog and could not nail down an approx. ship date. I'm guessing it should have been shipped around 1984. The prefix serial number is AAS. Any experts that can give a more accurate date? I also plan to replace the stocks with rams horn medallion stocks. Any recommendations on a good source?

I have yet to come across a Combat Magnum (Stainless) with a three letter prefix lower than AAS.

I have seen one that shipped in Dec, 1982 but most AAS prefix shipped in the first half of 1983.

Congratulations, that is a great looking Model 66 snubby

One of my 66 snubbies has an ADR prefix. It was manufactured in 1984 but I never bothered to inquire as to when the Factory shipped it

Might be able to find the rams horn grips at Rogers Guns and Grips. Probably won't be very cheap though.

The 19/66 is one of the best looking snubby revolvers going…the proportions are just right. I will admit adjustable sights on a snubby are unnecessary.

Congratulations! That is a nice one. That particular model and bbl length has been on my want list for many years and I have yet to buy one. I came really close about 10 years ago and at a good price, and I passed. Been kicking myself ever since.

It's surprising to me that I get groups at 15 yards just as tight with my 2-1/2" M66-1 as I do with my 4" M19-3, even when using magnum loads.
