Can anyone help me on the value of a S&W 681 L frame serial number AACxxxx in unfired in the box condition? I apologize in advance if I have posted this in the wrong area. Thanks in advance!

I bought one of the used Australian police surplus 681's from Robertson's last year for $530 - that was with some noticeable wear and more noticeable import markings. I felt it was a good price - not great, and not bad, but average. Considering how much I like the gun, I felt it was money well spent.

In light of that, it seems that your gun should be worth a good deal more than mine. FYI: I don't know if this applies to your gun or not, but some of the L frames from that era were recalled by the factory for a firing pin/primer lock-up related problem. As I recall, the guns that were returned to the factory had an "X" put somewhere on the gun...maybe on the serial number. I mention this since you say your 681 is unfired. My gun was never sent in for the recall, but I've had no problems with it, and I trust it.

The 586 and 686 that were sent back for the recall had an M stamped on the frame near the serial number under the yoke. It is probably the same for the 681.
