I have not really been paying attention to prices of revolvers lately.

What do you think a fair price range is for a 686-4 with a 3" barrel? I know some subjectivity will exist for the condition, but if you could point me in the right direction on a range, I would greatly appreciate it.

To me, a M686-4 is a highly desireable revolver. The 3" is very much sought after and the -4 engineering change is argueably the best of the best, last of the forged parts, firing pin where is should be, newer style rear sight assembly, if it's a 6 shot then bonus...!
I'd put a clean one in the $650-700 range easy, possibly more with box, etc.

If you don't mind the hole in the side and the lock, ~$600 will get you a new 686-6.

However, I would gladly pay $100 more for a prelock very good condition.
