S&W 686-4 6 inch Power Ported 357 MAG

I have a smith and Wesson 686-4 6 inch power ported 357 mag I would like to trade for other revolvers or high end autos. Very sweet gun. Will sell for 850.00

I by no means wish to rain on your parade or belittle your fine gun but the PowerPort 686s and 629s were not exactly popular, thus their discontinuance. While I have not followed their prices for about a year, $600 would buy a very nice used one at that time.

I have an unfired 6" 686-4 PP for which I paid $650 during 2010. I also bought a dirty but otherwise nice used 6" 686-5 PP in 2011 in order to get an S&W I wanted from a seller who would only sell the two guns together. All of them were purchased on GunBroker, so I was bidding against other people, not finding someone who didn't know what their guns were worth. Two photos of that -5 are below; after giving it a good cleaning, I sold it for $550.

Again, I mean nothing adversarial; just trying to offer some friendly advice.

I had a 6" 686 PowerPort 6 shot many moons ago. After one session at the range, I quickly traded it for a 4" 686 Plus 7 shot. I did not find that the porting accomplished anything positive, and it made the gun significantly louder when firing it under the metal roof at my local range. It also deposited carbon all over the top of the barrel around the port including all over the front sight. It was my first and definitely last experience with a ported gun. I wish you luck selling yours, as I was very happy to get rid of mine.

I have a 686-4 PP also and it is a fine gun. Compared to my standard 6''686-4 I find it has much less muzzle rise when shooting true magnum loadings. It is also more comfortable to shoot for long periods of time at the range with magnum loadings as compared to my other 686s.(in addition to the standard 6'' 686-4, I have a 4'' 686-5 and a 5'' 686+-6). It did not sell for more when new than standard 686s, so used it should bring about the same. New 686s around here are about $675, used about $500- $550. NIB with papers......maybe $600 on a good day.

I have never had carbon problems with mine, either around the port or on the front sight. This was shooting hundreds of rounds at a time without cleaning.....even when using Unique(as in dirty) reduced loads. Not any more than the standard 686s and then most was on the front of the cylinders. The 686PP is my favorite range 686, as it is with most others that shoot with me. Not only is it a tad milder on the hands, but it is extremely accurate......as are most 686s.
