The LGS took in a S&W 686 Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Conservation Officer Commemorative. The revolver is new and unfired. And in the glass top display case it came in. Originally purchased from a police supply house for $499.00. Any idea on value?
The LGS owner is debating weither to keep it or sell it. I was thinking between 1200 & 1500, but can find no info on it. Thanks

Unfortunately Commemoratives are not worth much more than a normal model. Unfired helps. The case is a plus. It may appeal greatly to someone that was in that position. I am no expert though. If I needed a 686, would be a plus for me, as I live in Michigan. Bob

A 686 in that condition that is associated with DNR could fetch anywhere between 1,200-2,000+ The problem is it is a very niche market.

The condition and case make the basement price around 1,200 and with the right person it could be considered a grail. The problem is finding that person, someone who was in DNR or had a relative in DNR that carried a 686 could see it as a treasure piece.

Post photos, I worked with the national park service as an intern with an environmental education center and would love to see it to see the markings.
