I bought a 686 in 1994 NIB with a serial # prefix BRE 1XXX. It is a 6" stainless with wood grips. I just purchased the Standard Catalog of S@W but did not find the BRE listed. Any help would be appreciated. Great Forum.

Hi, and welcome. If you have the 3rd edition of the SCSW, you'll notice in the serial number tables that the BRF prefix shipped in August 1994, so I think it is safe to reason that your gun was from around that time, give or take a few months in either direction.
The factory never looks to ship in order of SN, so yours may have been made and pushed to the back of a shelf while "newer" guns went out first. An imprecise science to say the least.
