S&W 986 moon clips sticking fix

FYI: Had a situation where my full moon clips would hang up & fail to drop fully into the cylinder (occasionally). There should be a gap between the rachet area and moon clip (circles). Simple fix was to remove the high spots on the rachet (arrow) to increase the gaps. A visual inspection with the clips installed will reveal if the gap is present. The material removed is not associated with rachet timing. Something to consider with other full moon revolvers?

Agree, I wouldn't mess with the ratchet, they're cut to rotate the cylinder. If I were going to remove any metal at all, it would be from the clips. Maybe try different clips.

Do what you want..but the area that needs to be reduced will not affect the rachet integrity. All of my other moon clips revolvers have proper clearance. The one in the picture is what it looks like now after cleaning up the rachet.
