Happy New Year everyone! It's a new year and a new Poll! I am tying to get some non-bias data on how reliable that S&W Airweight Revolvers are. I already tried to make one poll but, I think it was flawed because of the question I asked
( I don't want to repeat the flawed question and confuse the poll ).

Please only answer the poll if you have or had any of the S&W Airweight revolvers.
DO NOT answer the poll if you have or had a regular S&W revolver, I believe this would throw off the data.
Please only vote only once however, If you have more than one S&W Airweight revolver please vote as many times as you have Airweight revolvers.

How many rounds have you fired with your S&W Airweight revolver and not had a problem or had a Problem?

1-2000 Rounds and NO Problems
1-2000 Rounds before had a Problem / Problems
2000-4000 Rounds and NO Problems
2000-4000 Rounds before I had a Problem / Problems
4000-6000 Rounds and NO Problems
4000-6000 Rounds before I had a Problem /Problems
6000-8000 Rounds and I had NO Problems
6000-8000 Rounds before I had a Problem /Problems
More than 8000 Rounds and I had No Problems
More than 8000 Rounds before I had a Problem / Problems

I am torn between the Taurus 941 Ultra-Lite and the S&W 351PD Airweight for my CCW. Hopefully this data can help someone else decide too.

Brand new 642-2 fired 20 rounds no problems. Now I'm going to sell it cause I remember why I don't like revolvers. TOO much time reloading.

Haha thanks for the data.....can you fire it 10,000 more times before I sell it to get a data point? lol.

My 642-1 broke its hammer stud after about 1400 rounds (about 500 +P) and, conservatively, about 8000 dry fires. I had the gun a little over 4 years. S&W replaced it under warranty, no cost to me. They also reimbursed my transfer fees.

Reliability Poll

Maybe....... You should run this same poll over on a Taurus
forum, would like to know how you do there.
I have owned 3 Taurus (snub) lightweights over the years, only 1 now. The other 2 had problems in less than 50 rounds.
They are gone, and I don't carry the other one.
My 438 goes with me every day.:)

Haha I already have. The Poll is about the Taurus Ultra-lite revolver.

I am debating with my self if I should post a poll on the Taurus Ultra-lite here and the S&W on the Taurus forum.

Oh I also have the Taurus Poll up at the Firing line forum. I figure thats neutral territory.

I had a 642 with 200-300 rounds through it with on problems. I traded it for another gun then sold that gun for jeep parts. I regretted getting rid of the 642 so I ordered a 638 other day. On another note my father in law had a Taurus judge that had problems but I don't remember exactly what problems it had off the top of my head. It was a ultra lite judge too.

Sweet dude good data. Thank you:) Yeah I am going to make a Taurus Poll here and a S&W Poll on the Taurus forum.

lets see now---8000 rounds=160 boxes of ammo @ $25.00 per box = $4,000.00 it would be cheaper for us to buy you a new Airweight and forget the poll.lol

Lol I'm thinking long term. Yes over 10 years you might spend a lot of money on ammo. But, buying a new airweight won't save you money especially because S&W has a lifetime warranty. If your going to shoot you will spend the money on ammo regardless of what gun you have.

Man, you've got 3 different polls just on this forum regarding S&W and Taurus airweights. Just curious, is it always so tough to make a decision?

I've owned/shot/carried the "airweight" Js for well over 40 years. While I have no clue how many rounds I put through them (had to qualify w/off duty gun annually) I've never had a problem with any of them.

Roger that. Thank you sir.

Between 1500 and 2000 rounds through my 638, no +P rounds, no problems.

Sorry, but choosing between a S&W revolver and a Taurus seems like a no-brainer :-)

I know I know. S&W should be more reliable. But I wanted to make sure with the alloy frame before I assumed it would be reliable.

I carry a 637 and I load my ammo so I can shoot it regularly. I also carry a Colt pocket lite some but never both at any one time...

I'm currently without an air weight. I will however volunteer if you wish to supply an air weight and a few thousand wad cutters to provide detailed results. I'm just a helpful sort a guy. However I will say that I have enough confidence that I'm sure I would be carrying the snub home in my pocket as well as days after that. Don't hesitate to buy a S&W its with the extra few dollars and if anything happens it been my experience that they stand behind their product
