I'm on a waiting list (#3) at my LGS for a 9mm Shield. I was told that S&W takes vacation for two weeks in August. But they should be back to work today.
How long do you guys think it will take S&W to ramp back up and kick out some Shields to satisfy the demand?

Thanks

Well Doug, that was a very good question. I see you had lots of feedback from the S&W group. I expect that you will see some Shields hitting the LGS within 2-3 weeks...If not you should go ahead and buy that nice Springfield XD subcompact...and save a few $$ too.

It also has to do where you're LGS is on their distributor's waiting list.........

BTW, despite the previous post, it is worth the wait.

Thanks setxwarrior... I agree.... I'm really going to wait...just wanted to spew out just a little fustration..Ha...

You didn't get any replies to your question because it's a question none of us can answer for you. We have no idea what shop you are going to, which distributor they use, where they rank in importance to their distributor, and a host of other factors. So if you can't wait then get the XD and be disappointed. If you hold out you will eventually have your Shield, maybe tomorrow, maybe next year. Such is life.

Doug I couldn't wait for my Shield so I had to pay more on Gunbroker.com to get my 9mm Shield but it was worth the extra cash to get it and not wait.
Love it.

Thanks guys...I didn't expect an answer to the nearest zip code with for digit extension on when my gun would be shipped to a LGS......I thought someone with years & years of S&W history/experience had a good idea of how long it took for a factory to catch up on demand...such is life...Yes, of course

jstanfield103: I have considered the gunbroker.com... and may go this route...if nothing happens in 30 days or so...I'm happy to hear you love your Shield...

I would say very fast, I set up the Factory Tour every year for the other forum I'm on and I see how fast they work there, so I would say they allready have guns going out the door to the supplyers.

I have seen on the S&W website that we (MASS folks) won't be able to get the MA Shield till October.

I was going to get a Shield, but not anylonger.

I was at a gun shop buying a M&P15-22 today and I saw a sweet S&W Pro Series 3" 1911 in 45 ACP (of course, I love the 45 ACP round).

That gun is lighter than my M&P 40 compact, all I have to do is put a ambi safety (left handed) on it and it will become my carry gun.

I just bought a FS M&P 45 also so my M&P 40 FS and Compact will be going up for sale. Both of them have a Greg Derr Trigger and Tune Up on them.

I have to update this:

I ended up buying a Shield after all.

I had bought a Ruger LC9 and I hate it (it's up for sale).

As much as I love my 1911's I just wanted something lighter still.

I ended up buying the 9mm Shield and it is a great little gun, I added the XS Big Dot Sights and a Crimson Trace Laser to it and I just got the APEX kit that I haven't installed yet though.

Here's some photo's:
