S&W change to stop trigger mods.

When somebody starts talking about springs, J Rich automatically thinks they are talking about him, for some reason. He has not been the same since he drank that gallon of anti-freeze.

Is that the way it is, Glock boy?:D

Here we go, let the controversy begin!! Fellas, read Vector's post real carefully. He's fillin' you in on something. No need to dump your Sigmas!

While waiting for Midway USA to get the sear housing block assemblies in, Numrich actually got some in and he ordered it for 44.60 + 8.50 shipping. It came with punched or stamped pins as well, but it only had one sear spring in it plus the pigtail spring. The pin that holds the pigtail spring comes out easily if you wanted to remove the pigtail spring. He left it in and installed the assembly and it has a 6# trigger pull and he is very happy with that. Not sure how much more the trigger pull would drop if you took the pigtail spring out as well. He has ran 700 rounds through it and has had no issues at all. I have polished the sear and sear arm in my sw40ve and removed the outer sear spring and the pigtail spring and it is only very slightly lighter than his trigger is now and I have many more rounds through mine.

The Numrich website says sold out. Has anybody heard an update on when the Apex kit will be available?

I went over and checked it out, they look to have been done by machine. they are punched dead center and deep, enough to spread the ends of the pin so they won't budge. I don't think you can drill them without ruining them and from what I can tell you won't get anymore pins or even another sear housing block assembly, so you'll have to send it back to S&W for repair if you do. Brownells and Numrich say they can't get them anymore and Midway USA say they are expecting to get some in on april 8, but I bet if they do get them they will be punched as well. I will probably end up taking the pins out of my gun to a machine shop around here to see if they can make some of them and then drill his out and replace them after polishing everything and doing the mod. S&W just made things tougher, that's all.
I will probably end up taking the pins out of my gun to a machine shop around here to see if they can make some of them. I have a SW40F and also just bought a parts kit less frame. Both of the sear block assemblies have the punched or pressed pins. Both only have the single spring and pigtail spring. I can feel the rough in the sear slot cutout. Not bad but would like to clean it up. If you can get these pins made i would like to buy a few sets. Thanks

I just shot mine, never did a lick of work on the trigger assembly and its right at 5 lbs now with less than 800 rounds through it. Why complain about a design that does what it's supposed to do so that mechanical safety's can be eliminated? I guess people just gotta find something to complain about...

S&W has also shut off parts for the Sigma sear assembly, so if you tear up anything, used parts are the only option short of sending the whole gun to S&W.

Given the flood of calls to S&W wanting sear parts to mod and others asking for "the free factory trigger job on the Sigma," I guess we should not be too surprised S&W lawyers got into the act.

Sometimes a bit of discretion saves unwanted attention......

How do you know it was lawyers? Perhaps it was just S&W management because they were fixing too many Sigmas broken by amateur gunsmiths who think you can "fix" the Sigma by just taking out some parts.

Folks, the Sigma was designed to have a trigger pull like a Model 10 - same length of pull, same weight, etc.

If people want a polymer pistol with a lighter trigger, just buy an M&P.

S&W doesn't see people tinkering with the triggers as "improvement", any more than Honda sees 17 year old kids strapping on Nitrous bottles to stock Civics as an "improvement". Both modifications done improperly can have dangerous, litigation generating consequences.

I just got a sprint for my SW9VE and when I went to install it I expected to see the center punches. To my suprise the pins weren't punched, just straight and easy to remove.

The discussions about what and if to do anything to the sear assembly is ongoing. My Sigma is almost two years old and slightly modded for better control. (Sigh, lawyers!)

S&W is wrong to do this, the Trigger job was covered by the warrenty and they just wanted to stop honoring it.
