I have a 27-8 Performance Center 8-shot that is beautifully made. It shoots as well (or as well as I can shoot it) as my 1989 27-4. I think it looks as good, too. I put a set of the new, thinner grips on the -4 because I like the way I can hold them better.
 
The new ones are maybe overall just as good or better on the average, except for the IL, and a MUCH THINNER extractor on the 22-4. The old achieved the same or, according to some, better quality the hard way.

I prefer the old, but the new aren't bad, and, legal advice aside, you can always install a Plug, if that's your idea of a good time.
