Hi folks. I have a S&W CTG Highway Patrolman 357 6 inch barrel. The only number is visible when I open the cylinder. It's 87379 with what looks like an A below it. I can't find any info on this. Can anyone help?

serial number is located on the bottom of the grip frame... if the stocks cover this, carefully remove them... with no designation of 28, 28-1, 28-2 or 28-3 from the frame under the open cylinder, it is likely a "pre" model 28 or just simply a Highway Patrolman... and pictures always help I.D. things

I have no idea how to add pics on this site, but I will take the stocks off and look. Thanks again for the help folks.

Welcome to the forum. The "CTG" on your revolver is just S&W's abbreviation for the word cartridge, not actually part of the name. Stick around and you'll learn all sorts of fun facts from the (mostly) friendly resident experts here. I'm mostly friendly, but definitely not an expert.
Good shootin',
Doug

P.S. I carried the 4" version of your revolver for many years. You're gonna love it.l
