Greetings from Homer Glen Illinois,
Just joined the forum, as I recently bought a new 15-22 last month to be a partner for my AR-15 platform unit. The 15-22 rifle has been nothing short of a dangerous nightmare right out of the box. (Does S&W reps monitor this forum like other forums I use?). Hope so. Anyway, I have used/rotated through all the ammo recommended by S&W, bought 3 extra new S&W original magazines, and all I get are constant mis-fires, jams, failure to feeds, stove pipes, crushed brass and brass flinging out at 4 to 5 o'clock (when it does fire), and it is always hitting my right arm (I shoot lefty) and a few casings going right into my face. I would think ejection would be straight on at 3 o'clock and fairly consistent at 3 o'clock? At least that is what I see on the web? I also noticed the tops of the magazines are getting a bit chewed up? Called S&W to get a Return Authorization today. I asked them to consider replacement in my complaint letter. I really do not want it serviced? It is not even a month old. What are your experiences with the factory? Seems the logical and most cost effective way to handle this would be to just send me a new unit? Advice? Thoughts? Recommendations? Did I get a lemon? I have heard nothing but rave reviews regarding the 15-22. Warm Regards, John Z.

did you happen to use a bore snake to clean it before it's first shooting? if so, it is possible that the bore snake caught on the extractor and bent it. i did not have this happen but have read of others doing it. the entire rifle does not need replaced, just the defective part(s). once you get it back from smith, you will very happy with it.

Not for nothing, but always contact the company first. If you don't get satisfaction, complain on the forum. Don't get yourself all worked up over something that can easily be rectified at no cost to you. Sure it's aggravating, but assemblers are human, and thus imperfect. S&W has some of the best customer service. Actually, I've found gun manufactures have some of the best customer service, period.

And, welcome aboard.:)

Remember, if you want them to send you a new rifle instead of repair you will most likely have to pay for the transfer fee, do a background check, and wait period all over again due to new serial #.

I hope you get satisfaction. I understand you are disappointed. I shot mine yesterday for the first time, and I was a bit anxious as to whether it would perform as intended, or that it would have "issues". Fortunately for me, it worked as advertised. One of the reasons I bought a S&W is the good reputation of customer service of S&W; I am confident S&W would / will make it right. Please let us know how S&W resolves this for you.

My 15/22 MOE flings empties, everywhere!!

There isn't a pattern to the ejection cycle that I've found.

I place a queen bed sheet on the ground to the right of the shooting going on. Some are ejected beyond the border, some fall to my feet.

I really want one of the ejection port deflectors offered here but I guess they are still being tested.

Not the norm. My M&P 15-22 is probably my most reliable semi-auto 22 in terms of eating absolutely everything. S&W will take care of you.

Thank you ALL for he helpful comments and encouragement. I am most grateful. Regarding my cleaning, I use J. Dewey products and rods for all my "items"; 4 pistols, 3 rifles. And minty fresh and natural "Frog Lube" from the beginning due to other product "toxicity" issues; I am battling leukemia and I don't need any "outside" chemotherapy entering my system :) so to speak! I have heard S&W does well in the customer service area. So I am hoping for the best. I already purchased a new 15-22 (a base unit, product # 811033) since I pretty much know I have an obvious lemon here. Plus I was planning on a second one for my son regardless. That should be here today or Monday. It will be interesting firing it and seeing how it performs! I'll also take note of the serial number; hope it ain't close to my bum units SN. I will keep everyone posted. Happy week-end. Warm Regards, John

So sorry to here about your leukemia. God Bless. All the more reason not to get excited over a lemon. They will contact you regarding your options, don't worry. You have to keep your immune system up.

Hang in there, sir. S&W will make it right.

And having lost several family members to cancer, I hope you kick your ailment's butt! I'm wearing a yellow arm band on my wrist for all of those folks whom I know that both won and lost. I hope for you to end up on the WINNING side!

Sorry for you problems most don't have any but like stated it can happen anyone can make a lemon once in a while. Send it back give all pertinent information and ammo used.

As for brass deflection you might want to read here as they make a brass defector. It happens with some lefties with any semi auto. I know why spend money on this, but just a inconvenience of a right handed world.

Make sure your rounds are staggered when loading the magazine.

You won't like my reply....

My 15-22 was a blast to shoot, but then one day my son was rapid firing and he had a round go off outside the chamber. Debris flew out and the sound was really off from a normal shot. He kept shooting because you kind of wonder if what just happened actually happened.

When the gun fired OOB again, we knew there was a problem. Then the gun fired without pulling the trigger, and once the back of a shell blew completely off.

After a trip to S&W where they replaced the entire bolt, the gun now has light primer strikes (up to 10 per magazine) and sometimes the bolt hangs OOB and has to be pushed forward with a finger to fire.

It's going back to S&W as soon as I can get through for a return tag.

When I first got mine I was getting a few stovepipes per magazine. Sent it in and I haven't had another in over 1000 rounds. They'll get it working right.

Are you using Remington Golden Bullets? Mine does not like it all.

Thank you all for the kind words regarding my leukemia. My battle continues. Finished 4 weeks of chemo several weeks ago and my doc said go do some shoot'in to relax. So went and shot this new 15-22, my AR-15 platform and my various pistols. It does relax me. I am sure you guys and gals agree. I do wear a mask though indoors. Anyway, for this problem 15-22, I used CCI Standard, CCI Mini-mags, CCI AR Tactical, CCI Stinger, Federal 550 bulk, and even tried Remington Yellow Jacket HP's. Used 4 different magazines. Just constant issues. As my relaxation turned to frustration, I decided to stop and send it back. YES, need to watch that immune system. And things of this nature can trigger a flair up. Thanks again for the kind words. I do hope S&W makes good. I am sure they will? Regards, John

Yes, I do not like your reply! Considering this polymer upper and lower probably costs less than 10 bucks to manufacture, I am sure hoping they just send me a whole new unit. Cannot see wasting labor time trying to fix a seriously messed up right out of the box unit? Ah, feel my white blood cells rising. Must relax! Regards, John
