I bought a new 686 last month and discovered it shot 6" high at 25 yards with 125 grain bullets and the 158's sailed over the target. The rear sight was already screwed all of the down so there was no adjustment left.

I called S&W and talked to a very courteous young man who sent me a Fedex slip, shipping instructions, and told me to expect a six week turn around. I sent the weapon in and held my breath after reading all the horror stories, but I got it back in four weeks to the day with the correct sights installed and the original sights in a ziplock bag. Took it out and gave it a try this morning and with the rear sight in the middle of the adjustment it now hits where aimed.

I could not be happier with S&W's customer service and the way I was treated. Don't know how or why it was sent out with the wrong sights in the first place but sh*t happens.

There was a thread on here recently that talked about this same issue, but on an X-frame revolver.

IMO An Incidence Of An Eye Popping Lack Of Corporate Ethics At Smith & Wesson

I have had great experience from S&W when it comes to warranty work,. No complaints here. Admittedly I have had only one issue with an M&P 9L and it took 2 trips back to the mothership but they handled it at no cost to me and had my gun back to me in less than 2 weeks once they received it.

In the last 6 months I have had to send 2 revolvers, a 686-3 and a 58 back to Smith & Wesson. Both were 2 purchases of mine that needed some loving care. Both came back in way better condition then before and at a very reasonable cost. I thought the 686 repair was going to be expensive to repair. Excellent service.

Had a very good experience with S/W about 2 years ago regarding an extractor rod issue with my model 629 revolver. it took about 2 months total time to get it back, but it was well worth the wait.

I have the impression that just like most anywhere else, you either get someone with experience, talent, and takes pride in their work, or you get someone who simply does not care, or is just unable keeping to standard no matter how hard they try. Who knows, the person working on your revolver could quite possibly be anti-2A (not judging here, their right), or maybe overworked, have angry boss, etc.

With the 3 experiences I have had, which were unremarkable (but what do I know), since they all were with x-frames, perhaps they're not happy working on them knowing they have to test fire upon finishing.

I wonder if they frequent these posts time to time.

I recently had a warranty repair on a new revolver. I called, they answered the phone, took the information, sent a prepaid label and it was shipped within an hour of the call.
About 3 or 4 weeks later I got an email it was on the way back.
They made it quick, easy and efficient.
Great Service.
