I have one and believe it’s an underrated pistol. Well made, reliable and accurate. I dumped my SA, and SIg 1911s and have only the S&W and a Dan Wesson. Think you can’t go wrong with one, especially if you get one at a good price.

I'm satisfied with mine as it's been reliable with all sorts of range and duty ammunition and provides good accuracy, but due to its rather mediocre trigger and coarse checkering, it isn't a "refined" 1911 IMO.

All in all I believe it's worth owning.

Congrats! Nice pistol !

I got mine at the P.X. for under a grand, making it four bones less than my SA Operator. I'm positive it's as smooth as the Operator and almost as accurate. I love it, and recommend to anybody that can get past the external extractor.

I actually like the external extractor, it's the piccatiny rail i'm not a fan of....

These are really good value, I'm in Australia and the distributor here no longer lists them as available, they only list the PC version, which is ok, but i'm not sure i'd notice the difference, except the price....

Best bang for your buck, I have the E and the SCPC in Commander size.
Some* have an inherent issue of the safety plunger tube coming unstaked, but it's a free fix from S&W even if you're not the original owner.

I have the S&W 1911PD and love it. While I was able to I was carrying it as a duty weapon. I am not one of those picky people that worry about the trigger. Also, we have to have our triggers in the 4-5# range for a duty weapon.

I got the 1911 at the P.X. on 25 June for less than a grand.. Shot it that weekend at the local club and Mike the RS, had the bobtail. The rest is history. I think I got a good deal from Smoky Mountain Gun Works at less than $1.1K shipped to my local FFL.S&W.jpg

I don’t own one, but have always heard good things about them. I recall a gunsmith’s column in American Handgunner or Guns Magazine probably 20 years ago now saying there were three commercial 1911s for enthusiasts looking for a platform to customize - the Colt 1911s, the Springers, and the S&W E-series. I don’t recall specifics but believe it was in regard to steel and machinability.
