I have a S&W Mod.27 that has a set of S&W walnut smooth service type grips, that have 43 stamped on the back of them. What would the significance of this number on these grips? I bought them for genuine S&W grips. Here are pictures of the 27 with them mounted, and showing the backs also. I have just ordered a Tyler-T Grip for the 27, as the case that I built for it is to short for target style grips.
Thanks.

Chubbo - beautiful Magnas!
The significance of the #43 is to keep the two grip panels together as {mates} in the wood dept. during manufacturing
FYI - that is not walnut.........my guess is Goncalo Alves

Don't know about the 43 but the grips are gorgeous.

Might try to kill the payment on the Tyler T-Grips if you ordered from the manufacturer. There is a thread going on here that explains that the place is taking the checks and cashing them but not shipping. Just a heads up.

Case

Yes, Chuck I made the case. It's made out of cherry wood. I made another similar one for another special to me S&W, also made of cherry wood. I have made several for my S&Ws. & Colts of different woods also.
Yanici, I am glad you updated me on the Tyler-T situation. The order is still on my desk waiting to be sent.
I wonder if any of the grip makers make grips of this length with a back of the trigger guard filler? If not, I will have to find a used Tyler-T grip.
I would have bet that this set of grips was walnut, but after what you guys said, I gave them a closer look and I am sure you are right as walnut has a different grain, but a similar color.
Thanks.

Look up the posts on the BK grip adapter. So far just available in J Frame size, but K & N will be made in the future. They are identical to the Tyler but made of resin rather than aluminum.

Case

jp zanoya, Here is another Case I built for my first center fire S&W revolver, a mod. 15 Combat Masterpiece, bought new in 1952. Could not find grips to suit me and remodeled this set to fit & suit.
Thanks Richard for the info on the filler grips.

BK Grips are spot on. I just received one for my 638 and they are as good as if not better than Tyler.
