S&W K-22

Hello out there needing some help knowing if this is a good purchase. I found a K-22 I believe that was made in 1953-55 and it has the correct gold box and original paper. All serial number match except the grips they are faint. Can someone with more experience please share some information, also I have attached pictures.

Just because you have the box does not make it ANIB. Needs to be at least 99%.

The serial number K101639 indicates probable shipment in late 1950 or early 1951. Nice example of a K-22 Masterpiece, but the stocks are not original.

Nice K-22 Masterpiece and decent box. The vapor paper is much newer. Based on what I can see from the photos, I would say the value is in the $750 to $1,000 range, depending on how it is sold and to whom.

The shoulder is incorrect. In 1950-51, the Magna stocks had a sharp shoulder, that is, where the wood drops off to the frame above the stock circle, it isn't gradual, like yours are. If you look closely at the number stamped inside the right panel, you will see it does not match the serial number of the revolver. That style didn't start until c. 1953.

FWIW, I picked up a 1952 off GB for 605 plus shipping and tax a few months ago. Mine did not have the box but had slightly better bluing and matching magna stocks.

I'd say you did very well.

My 1952 is at the top in the photo below; the bottom is a 1957 four-screw that was one of the last before Smith went to the Model 17 that year.

The grips on the left have the sharp shoulders as Jack referenced and what would be correct for your K22

** I've made a better repair on that chip since the picture was taken. They came to me like this.

I believe I see a fair amount of wear on the barrel and the high spots. With incorrect stocks I think more in the range of $650. Looks like an excellent shooter.

No. Those don't have the sharp shoulder either, but more noticeable is the lack of a smooth diamond at the screw location. Those Magna stocks are from 1967 or later. The order eliminating the diamond was issued on January 11, 1966.

Darn I'm trying what about these? I am looking on eBay and I found some smooth diamonds, but I just can't tell if I got sharp ends?
