S&W K-frame grips ?

I bought a model 66 in the late 70's and it came with an extra set of smooth grips. They fit but seem to be a little different from the stock checkered grips. Does anyone know if these are standard K grips or made to fit another or multiple frame sizes? I will try to attach a photo of the smooth grips on the right side of the checkered grips. Thanks

The checkered target grips are late model speedloader cutout grips for a K-frame. They are not proper for a 70s era gun.
The smooth targets are much earlier with football cutouts that appear to be rosewood and the reason they don't fit your 66 properly is because they are for an N-frame gun. They probably stick out in the tang area of the backstrap.

Thanks for the info. I have been curious about the grips for a long time and suspected they were not designed specifically for the 66. I might be mistaken about my date of purchase. I bought the 66 used and it is stamped 66-1 ser#115K5**. The checked grips might not have been original to the gun.

The guys above are correct on N frame and Rosewood, but I will add that it looks like they have been shortened on the bottom at some point in their past. Still, a very nice old set. The screw escutcheons and the silver washers place them as being from the '70's time frame.

Your serial number is from 1981 and the speed loader type stocks that you have could be correct on a K frame, since that style started showing up on them a little earlier than they did on the N frame.

I have a 66-1 with a 67K ser#. The grips have the cutout. Joe
