new guy here...

Just picked up a S&W M&P 15 sku 811025...

Fun, lightweight rifle and feels like firing a .22!

Two questions:

1. Those of you that installed mbus sights front and rear, where does your rear sight sit? Center, left, right...thx.

2. Are there any schematics for this rifle out there? S&W on the phone today, shockingly, said...we do not have or share schematics...I've tried Brownells and Numrich with no success too.

thx,
Chris

Congrats and welcome to the forum.

I use the magpul sights dead center on my upper; pro-offset worked well once for 3 gun when I used a scope up top but there are better if that's your thing.

Are you talking about the position of the apperature after sighting in? If so, that can vary from rifle to rifle even from the same model number and manufacturer.

As long as you don't run out of windage adjustment trying to sight it in, it is still within specifications for the rifle. However, some people's OCD kicks in and they can't stand it if it has to be too far left or right.

S&W M&P 15 Cant and FCG issues

Front to Rear the "cant" is off on this rifle.

I also had a double-fire today.

I am shipping it back to S&W for warranty work.

extremely dissatisfied, will keep y'all posted,

Are you sure the "double-fire" wasn't recoil induced with your finger still holding tension on the trigger?

I usually suggest having someone else run a magazine through it . . .

I tried the following trigger test but please expand on what you speak of!

"Take the upper off. Try to reset the trigger by hand, first with your finger OFF the trigger. The trigger should catch the hammer at the sear.

Now you want to release the hammer. *DO NOT LET THE HAMMER DROP ON THE OPEN RECEIVER.* Keep your off hand thumb in front of the hammer, between the hammer and the reveiver. Pull the trigger and release the hammer.

Now HOLD THE TRIGGER DOWN and push the hammer down.It should catch on the disengagement hook. Then release the trigger. The hammer should then catch on the sear."

thx cypher...it sounds like a fcg issue to me as well

It was not a bump fire - I held the trigger back, because before this it was already "creeping its way" toward a double tap. I thought a good cleaning would fix that. It did not.

AND, I am used to and like 'lighter' triggers.

I discussed my issues with the shop I bought the rifle from and they confirmed an out-of-spec cant then I called S&W Customer Service today, gave them details of the double-tap and out-of-spec cant and they immediately sent me a e-return label.

FedEx picks up tomorrow.

Will keep y'all posted.

Mine has been perfect for at least 2000 rounds. The only double fire was when I just went forward to reset, and had not shot in a couple months and accidentally shot (down range). The gun is awesome. 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards all day.

That is great news!
The rifle that I bought should have never passed QA at S&W.

Update 11242015

These are all facts and my opinions have been set aside...

The turn around was quick and the cant was fixed.

Despite a 2 page checklist of what could_have_been/was replaced, a simple "Notes:" section read "Rifle assembly fixed and new BCG installed".

The new BCG was solid...it did not have the excessive carbon build up the original arrived with and all seemed well but again my confidence was gone...solidified by the lack of detail to the 2-page "repair checklist".

I never test fired the rifle when I received it back from S&W warranty...I brought it directly to the shop I purchased it from to un-box in front of them in an attempt to return it.

After spending $1500.00 I expected more than that. I will admit I am picky but I also value quality over quantity when it comes to "tools".

I really have to thank my local shop, Past and Blast, for stepping up the the plate and buying this rifle back from me (we both took a loss) thereafter.

S&W failed me (and my shop) on this one.

Dear S&W: PLEASE don't get too big for your shoes and forget your roots!
