I just bought four 17 rd mags from Grab a Gun for under $39.00 each. Yeah, they might cost a little more than non-factory mags but the extra $$$ is well worth it! Save yourself aggravation and get factory mags.

Since factory magazines are plentiful and relatively inexpensive now that is the way to go. But in the recent past I bought some Italian-made ACT Mags that have worked 100%. Their website is up but nothing (including these magazines) seem to be in stock.

I have never used ACT magazines in an M&P. Generally, I believe they have a good reputation and have had good experiences with their P226 magazines.

If needing range mags, you could give the ACT a try, and they are probably gong to be good, and cost about half the cost of the OEM, but for other purposes I would use the OEM at least until fully vetting the ACT.

ACT mags for the M&P are available and in stock from several sources.

I would concur with the above opinions re: self defense, however...

For the range I have found the ETS mags to be very reliable both in M&Ps as well as in GLOCKS.

Cheers!

Greg Cote has factory mags for $36.95 and ACT-Mags for $19.95.

I first used ACT-Mags a few decades ago in a Sig P220. Over the years I have also used their mags in other guns, including an M&P 9c and I never had problems with any of the mags. I actually prefer the witness holes on the back of ACT-Mags to those on the sides of factory mags.

ACT mags run fine in my FPC carbine.
As mentined above, the location of the witness holes are the only significant difference I can see. Hand cycling the followers on both ACT & factory are identical in smoothness and resistance. I got mine from Greg Cotes as well.
AIM Surplus also has them under the name Armscor for $20 as well.
Cheapest factory mags I found was $34 so that's a pretty significant difference.
Time will tell if ACTs are as good as factory. I have three factory mags and three ACTs (for now).

One thing I will give props to S&W for, I bought a used EZ 380 about a year after they came out, and it came with several of the early mags with weak springs that caused stovepipes. The new mags I bought had stronger springs and were marked with a bit of yellow paint. I contacted S&W asking to buy some of the newer, stronger springs. Smith just replaced all my old mags free of charge.
