S&W M&P 22

Right. No intention of using it till corrected. I'm gonna look around here at work and see what I can dig up.

I did send an email to Customer Service. But calling them would be better.

We didn't have PVC so I used a small steel pipe to fab this. Headed to Lowes now to see if I can copy with something else. I'm afraid this steel part will hurt the front guide rod hole in the slide.

Oh I did have to shorten this buffer after taking these pics. Not by much though.

Hey, Wow your on the right track! And your right I think you would still batter the gun with a steel bushing.. But you know what your doing that's for sure!! I would think a scrap piece of nylon would work it's tough stuff..PVC too.. Maybe a tough rubber that could be laminated together with contact cement.. If you need size let me know I'll pull mine and use a digital micrometer to check what you need..Good man! George

Well here is my attempt at working with nylon material. Everything still works. Headed out to a buddies house in a little bit so I'll get to test it out.

I think I need super, super sharp bits for working with nylon. The tools and equipment I have access too are meant for hard materials. I picked these spacers up at Lowes for 92¢ and there's two in the baggie. I boggled the first one pretty bad. LOL. This one turned out to be useable but no where near what I wanted.

Well good luck with it! As long as you left enough material on the bushing sides where the spring goes into it and not so thin that it's not going to hold up with the impact of the slide.. What did you go by for dimensions? In any case a call to S&W Tuesday should get the ball rolling on some new one's for you.. I would get a spring too.. you never know when it may get away from you again.. Again good luck! George

Pistol shot great today. We only shot about 70 rounds cause we had 12 guns between the three of us. And one guy had a sweet *** AR that was new to him. That and I was giving lots of pistol shooting tips. Then we lost our sunlight.

I'll get dimensions here in a bit.

So I have an o.d. of 13mm and 7mm thick. The minor i.d. is a hair over 7mm with a major i.d. of 10mm. The depth I reamed out is 4mm.

So it works as of now. I had straightened the recoil spring but after shooting today the spring did bend up slightly again. So either the homemade buffer is slightly too thick or the spring is simply not going to stay straight because it was originally bent from my error of losing the stock buffer.

Either way I had my buddies 7 year old son shooting and loving it. He kept asking again and again to shoot it. So he learned many things about operating a semi auto and had lots of fun.

Glad things worked out for you.. I would not keep bending the recoil spring back to shape. If it works the way it is it will retain more of it's tempered memory if left alown.I would keep the round count low till you get your replacements for it.. If you have a big gun dealer where you got your gun and he has enough stock ask him for a recoil spring and a buffer out of his stock.. If you know him well and he has enough stock he may give you them.. You can replace his when you get yours from S&W.. 7 years old with a pistol,That's your call but a rifle is a little slower to swing in a unsafe direction.. A pistol can be dangerous even if your standing behind him with your hands on his shoulder's to counter any unsafe actions.. Don't ask how I know this.. George
