Just got a 38 M&P # 534222 and would like to know when it was made.

The most accurate dating for your specific serial number places it in the late 1940s, almost certainly 1948.

I have no idea how you arrived at that conclusion. In the late 1940s, the M&P serial numbers had an S prefix and were in the S800000 to S999999 range. In March 1948, the C prefix started at C1. The OP's stated serial number is far below that, and in a different serial sequence. It is from the mid-1920s without a doubt.

I don't think so. All post war M&Ps had a letter prefix, beginning with S, then C, then D. Guy is correct, mid-1926 for the given serial number.

Edit: Jack beat me to it...again. :)
