Did an auction the other night locally and just couldn't help myself..bought an older S&W 38 Sp. I think it is a model of 1905 4th change..but don't really know. Paid a bit much. (I think). Can't post ...well maybe i can..have a cheap camera here. Serial is 4750XX.. Blue is pretty good at about 85-90% Bore is good and this thing is smooth. Just wondering if I overpaid so maybe someone can give me a correct model and fairly close value. Oh 6inch with seems to be original grips..Grips have a nave scratched into the butt with a date 1924(darn it)

That 1924 date is probably correct, and it is a 1905-4th. Check to see if there is a serial number written or stamped inside the right grip panel. Your grips do not seem original, as the S&W grips from the 1920s did not have S&W medallions. Hard to say if you paid too much as we don't know what you paid. I hope it was less than $400.

1924 is correct for that serial number range, however the grips are incorrect. Correct grips would not have medallions. The gun is about a $275-$325 value gun for most areas. Ed.

The serial number is on the right grip written in ink. No stamping. somewhat faded but readable. Thanks for the info..the price I paid was just under 340 with tax. No paperwork as it was an owner auction. This is one of the smoothest Smiths I have ever had..

Then at the gun show this weekend bought a nice Winchester 64 30-30 in about 90% for 600 bucks. Been wanting one of them for quite a while
