Hello my fellow S&W-"Nerds",

my name is Simon and I'm a German-American FFL in 31698 Lindhorst, Lower Saxony, Germany. Yesterday I had to take some firearms from someone not allowed to keep them, due to failing to require the necessary license. One of which is a S&W Mod. 19-P which, I'm correct, was supposed to being delivered to Peru. Ok, so that is what I could find out about the 4" barrel type- my problem is- my gun has a 2 1/2" barrel but the rest adds up perfectly to the original P-type. The gun is in almost mint condition and is not known to have the barrel replaced at any time. I couldn't find anything about this type so, you're my last hope to find out more! Please forgive me, my English has decreased over the decades...

Welcome from Texas!...I never ranged quite as far north as Lindhorst during my two stays in Germany (Spangdahlem AB)...I do not have the answer to your specific question, but I'm sure this thread will receive a visit shortly from someone who does...:)...Ben

2 1/2" M19P revolvers are known

Here's a pic of one a SWCA member had in his collection some years back.
They were original with the Pachmayer grips.

The one you have was likely distributed by Wischo, they were a German based distributor and imported loads of unusual S&W's over the years...

Welcome

Welcome Simon. No need to apologize for your English, you are doing very well.
I can't tell you about you about your revolver, but it looks good.

Never saw a model 19 withOUT a rear sight... but I like that!
What's most scary is that your Government had to "take" a gun from a citizen from lack of license renewal..... some US states are like that, but not many...
We will soon be like Germany, though.... if things keep headed this way.

Maybe 13-P would have been a better stamp given the configuration.

A Q for anyone who might know: Do the 19-P 2 1/2" have round butts or square butts? Same Q for the 4" version?

The standard catalog shows these as exported to peru in a round butt fixed sight config for the 2 1/2" barrel.

So, the catalog shows both types, the 4" AND the 2 1/2" revolvers? Never found the 2 1/2" described anywhere else though. From what I learned, SW had around 3500ish produced for Peru, but they finally took only 1500 of the model 19-P.

Have you found quantities for both, the 4" and the 2 1/2"?

That's true! Being a FFL I come across tons of unusual S&W guns floating around in Europe. For example: This absolutely gorgeous SWPC 13-4 and a very funny little "Ashland Mod.60-1". All three, including the 19-P I bought over a period of only two weeks, and there's a lot more out there :D

My Dad was a technician with the 629th TCF – Tactical Control Flight in Hessisch Oldendorf, near Hamelin back in the 80's (You know the Pied Pieper of Hamelin?).

I made some more detailed photos of the markings.
