S&W Mod 29

Just joined last night. My story is this, back around 1970 or so I bought a Mod. 29 6 and a half inch blued 44 in the presentation box. Several years later I sold it to a friend when I needed some money ( big mistake) and just last week he called me and told me he now needs money and I bought it back for $400. I had maybe put 50 to 100 rounds thru it tops and he only shot it once at around five rounds so it's still beautiful in condition. The liner had started to disintegrate so he replaced it with a odd pinkish material. The box is perfect aside from that. I was browsing this site and found an idea to go to Jo-ann fabrics and purchase the Royal Blue crushed velvet which I did and I'm partially back in service. He couldn't find the original manual papers, or the tools so my search will start but I'm 99% there. Curious of the year I got it and wondered if the serial number would allow a member to assist me with this. It's a 29-2 # N61536. Also on the cylinder support right below this is the number 34898. I have to admit I'm very excited getting this back it and I have a lot of history with two close friends who are now gone. Thanks for any help

MEMBER JCELECT on here refurbishes the outside and inside of the presentation cases MINT! He did two 6 inch clamshell 1961 era for me, and many many more for others on here. Send it to him. You WON'T regret it!

Ballpark would be in the 1970 to 1972 time frame. Congratulations on your re-acquisition!

Welcome to the Forum.

I bought a new M25-5 4" blue .45 Colt in 1980. I roundbutted it and then later sold it to my lieutenant at the police department.

I was able to buy it back from him in 2007. He passed away in 2009.

It ain't going anywhere now!

Joe did a box for me for a 4 inch model 29. The case needed work on the hinges, the finish needed a touch up and he relined the inside. With shipping and insurance, it cost me $57. Looks new now.

Great on the price for reconditioning the box. And when I'm ready all I need is the interior. Thanks to all for getting back to me, it makes getting this great gun back even better and more fun sharing the excitement and info.

Joe is refurbing liners for me now

Joe does great work...he's got the liners for my 6-1/2" Model 29 presentation box right now for repair and re-flocking. I sent him a check for $35 + $12 s&h. You'll have to contact him for a quote, I can't speak for him; I'm sure that he'd like to see a pic of your liners in their current state in order to give you a price. I have three N frames with N62XXX numbers--'72, '73, '74. A check of the factory records is the only way to get an accurate ship date date for your gun.
