SCSW #4 states N700000 series as 1980 start date. What barrel length do you have and any accessories? We love pictures here.

It is a 6" gun I picked up at a local gun shop, I saw it on a Friday and went back on Saturday to buy it. You just don't see these guns much anymore and when you do you have to jump on them.
I wish I could send you a picture but I'm new to the forum and have no idea how to load a picture. No accessories other than Hogue rubber grips I purchased after I bought the revolver. I would like a 8 3/8 either a 57 no dash or a 29-2 someday. Thanks, Mike

Mike, 4 digit N serial prefix N frame revolvers usually shipped sometime in the 1970-72 time frame depending on the model. Most early N prefix guns were Model 28s. Your model 57 is an early N series none the less. Get it lettered to know for certain. It gives the gun added value if/when you decide to sell or trade.

Oops, I didn't notice the two dots added to the 7066.. that makes it a 6 digit so probably early 80s vintage. ;)

Welcome to the forum. Great snag! There's a LOT of .41Mag aficionados here on the forum and a wealth of collective knowledge. Not only do we like pictures, we like to hear what you paid for it so we can track contemporary pricing. Do you reload? If not, you've got a great reason to start. Hopefully you'll be able to get out and shoot it as soon as this mess is over and give us a range report. Oh, and our standard format for s/n's is to use xxx's...like N7066XX.

There's something I don't understand here. I had a M57 I bought new in 1974, and I already owned a much earlier M58 I had bought used. A no dash gun has to be earlier than '80 doesn't it?

At the bottom of the comment page is a section for Additional Options. In that section is a selection for manage attachments. Click that, select your photo and upload.

I have been reloading for years for various 44 mags to include a Ruger 77/44. Five years ago or so I started reloading for the 41 Mag when I acquired my 657 no dash 4" at a local Gun Show. Thanks for the info on the XXX. Mike

The 4" 657 made in 1986-7 is one of the hardest to acquire standard catalogued .41s S&W made...

Thats what I hear its fairly rare I had no idea when I bought it it's real nice looking gun and shoots great but I'm old fashioned and like blued guns like my Model 29-2 6.5'now that's a beauty. I purchased the 29 used and it was not in the best of shape so I sent it to the factory where they worked on timing end shake etc as well as a beautiful re finishing. I take it out and shoot some 44 special loads in it clean it and put it back in the Presentation box. Both the 657 and 57 I shoot the most. Michael
