Hi, First time poster from Australia.
Im looking at buying a 14-2 from a local shop. Its a 14-2 and going by the numbers its a about a 1964 model. This gun looks to be in very good condition and Ill be only using it for the range. The one thing of note is that it has a lot of what looks to be hand done etching on it. Its very nice work. My question is.
Was this a factory option or would it have been done post sale?
Bear in mind that Im in Australia and pricing is higher here.

Leowish, you will never go wrong with a 14.I don't know anything about the engraving part but there are absolute S&W geniuses here who I'm sure will have that answer for you.If you buy that 14 enjoy the heck out of it.Good luck on your choice.

Aftermarket etching or engraving. Stocks are quite a bit newer than the gun. It probably came originally with Magna stocks having the smooth diamond at the screw location.

Welcome from Virginia USA! In addition to what JP@AK said, someone blued the hammer and trigger which should be case hardened. I'd say at that price, about $435 US, if the functional mechanics check out, it's a bargain if what you want is a shooter.
Load up on wadcutters and have fun.
