Just recently picked this up on GB from an individual sell. I haven't shot it yet but the timing and lock up is sound. I don't know what's going on with the grip finish but they are numbered to the gun.
I had a square butt years ago and foolishly sold it. I'm glad I was able to get this one even if it isn't as nice as the one I let go.

Congrats. I just pulled a 10-5 off of Gunbroker (4"). Must be something in the air.

That's a beauty!!! The grips have some of the varnish or lacquer or whatever it is missing, which has allowed hand oils and cleaning and lubricating oils and what not to darken the un-varnished areas. It could be remedied by stripping the rest of the varnish off, and soaking for a couple of days in a solvent like lacquer thinner to leach out the oils, and then refinishing. I wouldn't let it bother me, though, it is still a great looking gun.

If I might venture an opinion on your stocks; the dark areas are where the factory finish has worn away, and skin oils, dirt, gun oils and such like schmutz have colored the bare wood. If it bothers you, you can strip them thoroughly with an overnight soak in acetone, scrub gently with a NON-plastic brush, let dry, polish w/0000 steel wool, and apply a few coats of BLO, rubbed in with your fingers, drying 24 hrs. between coats. I bet you'll like the result.

Nice Model 10 you have,

Curious about how much you had to pay. OK if you don't want to reveal, ball park is ok (over $500 or under $500). SCSW 4 edition indicates a premium for 2" on Model 10. Also premium for nickel and premium for round butt.

Have my eye on a Model 10, nickel, 2", pinned barrel with square butt in excellent condition (period correct grips but not numbered and no box or papers). I think it may be a little overpriced so haven't gotten it.

Looking good. They are sometimes hard to find. Got this one from 1977 a year ago at the gun show from a dealer friend's father for $270. The grips were so bad, I threw them in the junk box and replaced them. Then I found out how hard to find and expensive RB Magna Grips really are. I have since refinished the junk-box grips.

K-Frame 2" revolvers are good shooters. Very accurate for a snub. The only one I have is a Model 64 that I bought new in 1976 for $145. Carried as an off-duty revolver back in the day. (Used a pancake holster or a Bianchi X-15 shoulder holster. Never failed to qualify with it even with some qualifying rounds having to be out to 25 yards. This is one that won't be sold.

My guess is that someone neglected to remove the stocks before they began sloshing a harsh gun cleaning fluid on the revolver. Please don't ask me how I know this can happen.

I wouldn't say hoarded but not sold as a rule because they are so much better than J frames, not much harder to conceal, and concealable handguns are the current rage across the country. If you have a choice between a 6 shot, easy to shoot well, accurate K frame snub or a 5 shot, hard to shoot well, so hard to be accurate 5 shot J frame which will you choose?

I rarely carry a J frame these days and I used to always carry a M642. I have three or four J frames but I can't be bothered with them because of my fondness for K frame snubs.

Okay, I am probably a hoarder, now that I think about it.
