I have seen a 10-6 in 357 magnum with maybe 20% finish left on it. 4 inch, FS, $350.00 is his asking price. Do you think it is worth it? Thanks.

Sure - darned near anything can be fixed except true mechanical damage, and much of that can. Any modification/refinish might toilet the collector value, but that's not my knowledge set.

Yes, a .357 M10 HB. I don't recall why it came about (at what agency's request - NYSP?) but it fairly quickly became the M13. Sharper people than I will probably provide a better explanation of both parts of this.

It`s a rare gun. Not sure exactly how rare.
But $350 sounds pretty high for that condition. Guess it all comes down to how badly you want it. Might be a long time before you run across another one. And never know how badly the price might be inflated on the next one you find.
Personally, I`d pass on it. But I`m not the one making the choice.

You are right on the NYSP. The SCSW said 7000 were made and not marked. Both the combat trigger and hammer are original. As are the grips! The smooth combat trigger -.400 - feels really nice. The action is very smooth. The finish is the only problem. Had this been a straight md.10 I would have passed on it. But it is special. I will think on this a couple of days and then send it back home and get a new finish or ceracoated.

Yes it was high!

So - we finially settled on the gun, tax, and back ground check and I brought it for $300.00 out the door. A little more than I wanted but I have never seen one before. I have always loved the md.13 so I picked it up. My current carry revolver is my 681. Which is great with full power loads.

You did very well. They're not THAT rare, but I've never actually seen one. I would've paid that for it.

Mine just came in today. It is stamped MOD 10-6 / .357. It's in about 83%-85% condition. Has some holster wear on the end of the barrel. It has a ruff spot on one of the fluted cylinders and some wear on the bottom of the trigger guard. Appears to have been a carry gun for someone. Serial number is D607651. I don't know if it was one of the original 1200 NYSP or one of the commercial released ones. Anyway, here is a couple of pics. Still a great find as this is the only one that I have ever seen.

wow, your's is in so much better shape than mine! The serial on mine is D7067xx. I see your's was made in 73-74. A year before mine was. Well, I am off to the range to shoot it. Will get you a range report in a couple of hours.

Oh boy...

This 10-6 is a shooter! At 10 yards I fired 24 rounds of 157 grain semi-wadcutters Into a 2x3 inch group, rapid fire, double action only. The only thing different was the hammer fall. It seems to have a really short fall. Never shot one like that before. Have you owners of 10-6's noticed this or is it just me?

How much does S&W charge for a refinish?
I think I would sent it to them, and get it lettered as well.

Rapidray, so glad you decided to pick it up and followed through on the purchase. I've passed up on a couple of Smiths for a meesley $50 or so - have regretted those decisions ever since.

RapidRay,
That Model 10-6 is as ugly as ten-miles of bad road on a stormy night… but I do like the grips! They have character! We don't see many guns that have lost that much bluing, but if it shoots as well as you say it does you have done very well! It might be well worth it to get the factory re-blue, but keep those grips. You will have a very nice gun indeed.

well got one of them ugly mod.10-6 .357. about 90%+ finish and got a letter from Roy Jinks. i don`t think it is all that ugly.
