Hi guys and gals....Im new to the site....I just got ahold of a model 1500 30-06....I've found they were built by HOWA in Japan, and that the Weatherby Vanguard and Mossberg 1500 are the same gun.....any other insight anyone has for me on this gun?

Thanks for the advice....looks like a great page.....maybe someone on here can come up with a rear sight for my Dan Wesson 357 I havent been able to find yet

I have the same rifle and your right they where made by Howa and are the same as the same age Vanguards. When I got mine the trigger pull was very heavy and I used the instructions from an article in the NRA magazine about the Vangard to bring it down to about 3.5 pounds. Mine shoots well, about 1.25 inches (5 shots) at 100 yards with factory ammo. There is also a safety recall from Howa, if somebody disassembles the bolt and puts it together incorrectly it will fire when you close the bolt. Contact Howa and they should send you info on where to send the bolt for a free fix. Nice rifles, Good luck

Thanks for the info on the recall...do you have a link or info on how to contact HOWA about that? And you partially answered my next question....its a mule to pull the trigger on that thing....Id like to find that how-to on lightening the trigger pull.

Here is the link for the recall regcen.com(SM) - Howa Product Upgrade Registration

I have not adjusted the trigger on any of my S&W 1500s but it looks like it should be easy enough.

#24 is the "Trigger Adjusting Screw, Front"
#28 is the "Trigger Adjusting Screw, Rear"

#24 adjusts the spring tension on the trigger.....weight
#28 adjusts the sear engagement.......creep

Thanks alot!!! I'll get the numbers off that tomorrow and check it against the numbers affected by the recall.

Looks like ko41 has you on the right track. Good luck with your rifle.

Nice thread on the 1500....its a beautiful gun and shoots well.....I cant wait to get a better scope on it now.

I just finally got around to checking the SN on my gun against the ones included in the recall....gotta send my bolt back for repairs.....I think I may wait till after rifle season....the way I understand the recall its only a problem if you dissassemble the bolt and put it back together improperly....and I dont really plan on taking it apart so I think I should be ok.

Hello Members,

I have reciently aquired a S&W model 1500 Deluxe, chambered in .270. The rifle is in extreemely good condition, having only a few minor dings in the stock. It is topped with a 40x leapold & leapold mount system. It is my understanding that the Standard model 1500 came with iron sights, and the Deluxe did not. Also that the rifle was only manufactured for 2 years, before being discontinued. I prefer having the option of using either a scope, or iron sights when hunting. My question is : Should i have iron sights mounted, or will it reduce the collector's value of the rifle? ... I do not "have" to have the iron sights, but like having the option of their usage, and will not put them on the rifle if it reduces it's collector's value.

My wife bought me a NIB S&W1500 in 30- 06 for a Christmas present in 1981. Haven't a clue on the number of rounds down the barrel or number of deer killed with it over the years. But it's still going to the field this season and never been to a gunsmith.

I adjusted the trigger on my S&W 1500 'cause it was horrible!

Found destructions online that matched the trigger screwed to the bottom of the action...and just tweeked the creep out of it...then double checked the engagement and safety function.

I wasn't too impressed with the fact that one screw held the trigger to the bottom of the action(mine was loose when I got it!)

I bought my youngest son that hunts a S&W Model 1500 in 270 Win for his 16th birthday many years ago and I can tell you it's one accurate rifle and he has killed countless Antelope and Mule Deer with it when we lived in Colorado. It was a really a worthwhile buy back in the 80's for $200 and it's an outstanding rifle.

I have a Model 1500 7mm Magnum and have not hunted with it in so long I need to get reacquainted. Who can offer a suggestion for the most accurate 150 grain boat-tail bullet for long, flat shots. Also, what is the barrel length and number of twists in the grooves of rifling.

Safety stuck in fire position

The safety on my S&W model 1500 in 223 rem is stuck in the "fire" position. I took the trigger mechanism out and cleaned and oiled it, but it still will not move to the "safe" position. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get it to function properly? The rifle does still load and fire properly
Thanks

Smith & Wesson 1500 30-06 in perfect condition

Looking for scope mount for this rifle left behind from my dad. One of many I have. Still not 100% sure I’m keeping or not. I would like to add a scope. If anyone has suggestions on the mount I need please let me know.
