A recent addition, S&W Model 1700 LS in .243 Win, bolt is already on its way for the recall fix. Are the swivels on this rifle detachable? If they are what is the secrect to removing them...thanks.

That is a beauty! What scope are you mounting on her?

I've been looking for a 1 piece scope mount just like yours for my S&M 1500 .223 Varmint. Yours is a long action and I believe mine is a short action. All I can seem to find are long action mounts.

For the S&W 1500s/1700s, only 2 action sizes existed.
short action for 223, 243, 308
long action for 270Win, 30-06, and 7mmRemMag

other rifle manufacturers sometimes had 4 different
actions sizes with examples
-small action 223Rem-sometimes referred to as mini action
-short action 243Win 308Win
-long action 30-06 270Win
-magnum action 338WinMag

In the beginning of the 1500 series, Husqvarna made them.
At some point in time, manufacture of the 1500 was changed over to by Howa and then eventually the 1600s and 1700s were added.

VICTORY...used a little WD40 and a firm wiggle and out they came! Thanks for the help!

Husqvarna made the "alphabet" series Models A,B,C,D and E circa 1969-1972.
Howa manufactured the 1500-1700 series for S&W from 1981 to 1985.

That is really neat. In all of my years I have never actually seen S&W Ammo for sale at a dealer.. The fact is, that I didn't even know that they made Ammo until I joined the Forum.

Very nice looking rifle and great it is in .243. Makes me wish for the days of commonplace walnut and glossy bluing. Many of these used beauties can be had for reasonable money and used very little. Thanks for sharing.

Nice rifle, I have a 1500 in 30-06. I bought S&W 30-06 ammo in those 10 packs back in the late 70's I remember getting a couple of the on sale for about 3 bucks each at a store in Phoenix AZ that sold both guns and other variety goods as well as some groceries.

Congrats in getting a beautiful rifle.

Hope you will give us a range report......I'm really interested as to how accurate these rifles are.

Thanks for posting and showing the pics.
