Can anyone give me any info on a new acquisition?

SN 145Kxxx

Also, it's stamper 19-5, but the 5 is stamped over a 4. Is this indeed a 19-5?

Got it for $425, a couple of spots of rust, but nothing serious. No cracked cone, barely looks used, just not taken care of the best.

Thanks!

Is the barrel pinned? Are the charge holes recessed? Could be a transition revolver, but the 19-5 pretty much makes it a 19-5. Mis-
stamped S&W's are not really rare. They've made a bunch of guns over the years. Can't check the #, I'm away from "the book".

145K puts it at 1982, when the change from -4 to -5 took place. Serial numbers were added near the end of assembly. S&W would have definately used up old parts so it could easily be a -4 frame assembled and then marked as a -5. Is the barrel pinned? Cylinder holes are not recessed?

The features that distinguish the -5 from the -4 are: Not pinned, Not recessed. Date of engineering change 1982. Very obviously a -5.

Apparently a frame that had been marked as a -4 but when it came to being "put up" in S&W parlance there were no more recessed cylinders. An interesting point about transitional guns during this period is it is not unusual, if the barrel is pulled, to find the barrel has the pin notch but the frame isn't drilled.
