Welcome to the forum.

My first gun was a blued 6" 27-2. I bought it new in the mid-1970's, still have it, still love it.

The bad part is you'll want more than one.

Welcome to the 27 club, I myself have a 5" nickel 27-2. If you are indeed getting a dash 2, it's likely prior to the 80's. First of all give the gun a gentle but thorough cleaning with a good gun oil. Nickel can be a beautiful finish but you need to be careful to keep it that way. When handling, I recommend keeping a very soft cotton cloth handy to keep it clean. Stay away from anything coarse so you keep that mirror finish. Some people will use a polish or wax to clean stubborn stains in the finish. Search the archives for more information on that.
Congrats on a wonderful revolver,
Jeff

I have a really nice nickel 27-2 w/ an 8 3/8" barrel, and I'm presently negotiating to buy another one w/ a 6" bbl from a dealer I know. You will really like it.

Try to determine that the nickel finish is original to the revolver. There should be an "N" marking on the cylinder and the butt (underneath the grips). S&W refinished many of the longer barreled 27s, but if S&W did the work it still should be great quality. I have found that there is a value/price difference with original vs. re-finished, though.

Best of luck.

thanks for the welcome and the replies guys..

keep 'em coming will post pics of the gun and markings asap:)

best regards

I have two 6", and one 5" nickel 27-2. The only trouble I have with them is that they look to good to shoot. I don't want to get them dirty.

Be careful, there will no doubt be another showing up and wanting your affections.

This is exactly why i have duplicates. I never plan on dublicating anything in my accumulation of S&W's, but i cant bring myself to shoot pristine guns, so then I buy another one, and shoot that. One for admiring, and one for shooting.

here's a few pics guys...
