S&W model 28 4" nickel or SS

It is a factory refinish, but still a refinish. I don't know that I'd go $825 unless I really, really wanted it. I'm thinking more in the neighborhood of $750 and everybody wins.

I'd negotiate, always do, but would pay $825 in a heart beat for a factory re-nickel assuming it looks as good as I suspect it does and has the factory stamps showing it to be a factory job. Same people, same equipment, same quality as a new one leaving the factory. How many folks do you know with a factory nickeled 28-2 whether it was originally nickel or not? Good luck, and post pictures if you get it please.

Model 28-2 Nickel

After alot of research. The model 28-2 started life,as a blued finish. At some point in its life. It was nickeled. It appears to have been done in the factory. Very detailed, and disassembled. No markings to say,it was done by the factory, but that has looked at it,seem to think it was. Still working with the owner to agree to a fare price.

For many, many years, the factory refused to nickel plate M28s.

Buy the gun, not the story, unless there is written documentation.

Ah, I like that line!
A particular manager used to tell me:
"You're selling too much car and not enough sizzle."

Not looking to buy the story. Just giving info on what was found doing the rsearch. If your not interested. Keep your comments to your self

Most factory refinishes on S&W revolvers will be noted by a stamping on the left side of the grip frame. Reblue was often marked "RS", re-nickle or changing the finish from blue to nickle would be marked "RN". Without these markings, a refinish by the factory or another shop cannot be verified. As others have said, you buy the gun, not a story.

Waiting to see if the owner is going to sale. I'm sure he's disappointed it's not a factory nickel, and not worth what he wanted. Trying to work a deal with him.

Aside it being a gun that was rarely available in anything but matte blue, I would value it as a nicely aftermarket refinished revolver. Good luck in the negotiation.
