S&W Model 30

Need some help from all you smart S&W people out there. I have a chance to pick up a blue S&W Model 30 in 99% condition, no box. Has pinned barrel, cylinder not recessed, standard cylinder release latch, and appears to have target hammer and 2" barrel. My question, of course, what is the value of 99% model 30.

I would guess about $275-300, the .32s seem to go for less than .38 Special J frames. It would not have had recessed chambers (only .22s and Magnum calibers did), and a target hammer would be unusual and may suggest it is a replacement part. Hope this is helpful.

is it a 30-1? even without the box, if it is truly 99%, it will bring 400+ very, very quickly.

You have a Mod 30-1 made after 1966.

It's only a target hammer if the spur is wider than the rest of the hammer. Is that the case on your gun? You may be thinking the new style hammer that was introduced in 1953 is a Target hammer. No model 30's were shipped with target hammers since there were never any Mod 30 or Mod 30-1 targets made.

Here is a pic of the M30. Guess it is just the angle that makes the hammer look a little wider than normal. Thanks, Hondo for the clarification.
