Found one at the shop. Per the serial number it is around 1969 build. Appears to be like new with box and papers.
What price range and are these considered a good collectable?? I would not be shooting it as I have other shooters.

I can not find much info on line about them other than J frame, 38 special, standard service revolver.

Thanks

Edit: It is 38SW as carguychris has corrected noted.

The Model 33 isn't chambered in .38 Special- it's chambered in .38 Smith & Wesson (.38S&W), an earlier and lower-powered cartridge used in S&Ws .38 top-breaks.

Thanks

Any idea of price range?

In my area, they go from $400 to $450 for NIB. As a collectible, the caliber will not matter and NIB is NIB and getting harder to find. The problem is that many guns that appear to be NIB are really put together kits of boxes, tools and papers and are gathered and assembled. Unless you know and trust the Seller, you never know if you are getting the real deal.

I believe it to be the "real deal" but it is like new in the box so there is a little bit of freckling on the back of the grip. I would say 95+% condition. Box has matching serial number. Box appears to be orginal.

I bought one about 2 years ago for $300. No box or papers, but it's a flat latch in really nice condition.

I do not know what "flat latch" means??

The cylinder release latch is flat. It's an older gun.

Thank you.Nice gun and picture. I am not sure which one "mine" has, I can't remember, I had my dealer set it aside for me. We are still negotiating as I am buying some other guns. I will be getting it soon and will post some pics.

Just think if years ago, if you would have to carry the 38SW as a duty gun.

Just a little under powered.

The caliber isn't a deal killer unless you are looking for a serious man-stopper in a small package. For collecting, caliber/cartridge doesn't matter so much as overall condition and completeness of the "package".

Seems like $300 to $375 is the going price on these right now. I know that Winchester still makes cartridges for it and laying in a small supply of ammo might enhance a sale later on.

If your gun is a late production (69) J-frame, it probably has the traditional release latch.

The .38 S&W is no powerhouse, but at close ranges (under 7 yards) it can still do the job. The advantages are low recoil, noise and low flash. Follow up shots can be accomplished quickly (and needed).

Thanks Bill,

I am going to get it. I have it on "lay away" now with a few other guns.I just think it is a really nice looking little gun. Will post a pic when I pick it up.I might go there today and see what latch it has.
So many guns so little money.
