S&W Model 36 no dash, S/N 9JXXXX

I looked at this gun today at a local shop. The serial number range ( 9J )
is not listed in my SCSW, and I have both editions of this informative book.

Any ideas on approximate date ? I realize it should be between 1959 and 1967 but the S /N is confusing.

There are three editions . However, the 3rd version of the book has a typo in the SN table - 1J1 to 999J99 (note six character spaces total) goes from 1971 to '72, so 9J is likely from the earlier of the two years. 1J with seven spaces came later.

Yes. 9Jxxxx is most likely a 1971-made revolver.
