Hello out there.... I own a S & W Model 36 38 Special CTG with a 2 inch barrel. Serial Number on the frame butt is 61J277. The gun is in good condition, blue with wooden grips. Can anyone tell me what year this gun was made, and what a ball park value would be? I do not have an original box or tools. Also, the gun was purchased as "previously owned."

Welcome! It has a serial number format that dates it to 1971. Depending on your definition of "good" finish condition and if it is mechanically sound, $300-$450 would be a good range. Photos would help for more specific information if you can post them.
$400, right in the middle of murphydog's estimate, is where I'd put it.

Welcome to the FORUM. I purchased a 36 in nice shape, excellent mechanically 2 months ago for $389 shipped. Mine is a later model, 1981. My 1st J frame ever at 61. Nice Smith revolvers usually appreciate in value. Bob
