S&W Model 41 serial number search

Would someone be able to direct to a list of serial # post 1998?

The above list is super, but only gord thru 1998. Apparently both of mine are newer, UAK 2xxx, and UBY 7xxx?

Also, the engraving on the slides is different. One merely says

Smith and Wesson
Houlton ,ME

the other says

MADE IN THE U.S.A.
MARCAS REGISTRADAS
SMITH & WESSON
SPRINGFIELD, MASS

I did find refernces to this on revolvers, but not the 41?

Thx

greg

There isn't one. Without a historical letter it's only a guess.

If it that "new" you can call and talk to Tech Support at S&W Customer Service in Springfield. They should be able to tell you when it shipped. I have done this several times in past. 1-413-781-8300. Cheers.

So I will wake up this thread as it still is serial number related. Is a 4 digit model 41, no box in a shooter condition worth picking up as a keeper piece just because it is old and gettting harder to find? I understand having the serialized box and condition is everything but even though, is a shooter grade 4 digit M41 worth getting? At $700-$800? Thanks

Thanks for posting.

I just picked up serial 906xx. Looks like sometime in the mid '60s.

A 4 digit aerial number could turn out to be a first year gun. That's Always a plus. Not sure of the value for money as pictures would be needed.

Serial number 90679 shipped in June 1967 but #94036 also was shipped in June 1967. This is a good illustration of Smith & Wesson not shipping in serial number order.

Best estimate on your M41 is late spring to summer 1967. Only a letter will give an exact date.

I know this is an old thread but I have an easy question does the provided SS# table apply to all variations of the Model 41 i.e. the 7 3/8" version, field barrel and extended sight version.

Has the original posted list of serial numbers been update with all of the additional data provided here? If so, where is it posted?

model 41

I have a model 41 with a 4 digit serial number - 43XX
can anybody tell me about when it might have been manufactured?

edit: just called S&W and they said first introduction of the model 41 was 1957 and the first serial number was 1401. so i can only guess that my gun was manufactured in 1957...

The Smith & Wesson service rep gave you incorrect outdated information. According to Roy Jinks, S&W company historian, production of the model 41 started on 9/3/57. The first pistol, sn 3193, was shipped on 9/17/57. Since S&W did not ship in serial number order, there are known examples with slightly lower numbers but I’ve never seen any with serial numbers under 3100. There are rumors that model 41’s numbered in the 30xx range exist and I’d love to verify that. Your pistol was shipped in 1958 with a 7 3/8” barrel with the comp because that was the only configuration available in 1958.
If it’s worth the money, you can request a letter from the Smith and Wesson Historical Association that will give the invoice date and to whom your pistol was sold.

Bonjour de France .
Un M41 avec le numéro de série A584461 pourrait dater de quelle année ( 1980 ? )

The lowest SN I've observed is 3082. My understanding is that they started at 3000.

Very likely from 1979. Sorry for the late response.

Possibly 1987.

Best to start a new thread with requests like this, new posts in 11 year old threads get missed...
